UNDERSTANDING ACNE
Acne occurs through the interplay of 4 major factors:
Overproduction of oil or sebum
Irregular shedding of dead skin cells resulting in irritation of the hair follicles of your skin (follicular hyperkeratinization)
Build up of bacteria Colonization of follicles by Cutibacterium acnes (formerly Propionibacterium acnes), a normal human anaerobe
Release of multiple inflammatory mediators
